Guest Feature: Meet Empowered Millennial, Meg DeSalvo

Welcome to the Feature Series on the blog where you get to connect and hear from some really empowered folks, who are changing the game and inspiring all of us to do the same. They are real people doing badass shit.

Today, we are featuring:

Meg DeSalvo: Wellness Coach

Tell us about you, how would you describe yourself?

I am 33 (will be 34 August 12!). I am currently living in Wells, ME but from Massachusetts.

I am an empowered millennial building my dream coaching business while also being present with my family and not willing to let go of me in the mix. I am not willing to put anything over my mental and emotional health. If I do, then I can't be there for my family or my clients. I am a wellness coach that helps women live a healthier lifestyle without having to give up on themselves just to take care of others first.

What does empowered mean to you?

Empowerment, for me, is all about feeling like a total boss of my own life! It's like having this superhero strength that comes from knowing I'm in charge of my thoughts, feelings, and decisions.

Empowerment is about tuning out all that noise from society and other people and tuning into my own inner wisdom. It's like having this superpower that lets me trust my gut and go after what truly makes me happy, without seeking validation from anyone else.

How would you define yourself as an Empowered Millennial? What makes you one?

I view myself as an empowered millennial because I am willing to change how I show up with what is right for me, not what society tells me or what my parents tried to instill in me. I am deciding how I want to show up in this life and I am doing it my way.

What have you gone through that now makes you empowered? Sometimes you have to go THROUGH IT in order to be this strong version of yourself. What was the event, situation or ah-ha moment where you decided to BE this empowered?

I think the moment that hit me was when my job was making me feel like I had to have "X" amount of clients because they had a goal that needed to be hit. I had a 1 year old, and was pregnant and the dang pandemic was still lingering.

I was happy with my clients and how I was showing up for them. When I was trying to live up to their standards I was not happy with how I was showing up for my clients, my family and myself.

I knew we were moving (military family) so I knew at that moment when we moved, I was not going to work for someone else. And that is where I stepped in and started my own business as a mom, military wife and coach!

What challenges do you face (have you faced) staying empowered and what strategies do you use to overcome them?

At times I have to remind myself when I am in the comparison game that those who I am comparing myself against are not me. They do not live my life, and their life is not better than my life - because it is not my life. I have to slow down and be present and tap back into myself when I go into scarcity mode and feel not "empowered". I love EFT tapping, journaling and exercise to help me feel my best and get back in the right headspace.

If you could give someone who has experienced a similar situation to you and maybe isn't on the other, brighter side of

it, a piece of advice, what would you say?

At the end of the day when you lay your head down, how you feel depends on you. Your thoughts, opinions, emotions matter. Never be afraid to stand in that. Don't change anything about yourself or follow in someone else's footsteps if it does not aline with your feelings, opinions and values

If you could tell your younger self ONE thing, what would you say?

Your voice matters. You don't have to be quiet because you are afraid of what everyone else is going to think - and then think of you.

HELL YES!!! That's what's up! What are you most excited about and how are you taking action to go and get it?

I am most excited to keep pushing on with my business while balancing mom life and wife life. I love that I do not have to choose between any of them. I make up the rules of how I want to spend my time now!

What is your favorite part of being a millennial?

THE THROWBACK JAMS! My spotify playlist these day are all 2000-2010s jams to help calm my overwhelmed brain these days!

I'm gonna need that playlist! So, our final question: What is your fav millennial pop culture moment?

Let's be honest. I am a 33 year old adult who still binges Harry Potter lol. I remember how fun it was to read the books and then watch the movies. I think I often revert back to watching it because it helps me calm myself down and I feel "at home" with these movies.

Where can people find you?
