When you truly love yourself, you stop confusing crumbs for a whole meal. Yes, we know this. AND I know I need reminders to shut it down and step up fully with clear boundaries and deep self love. You aren't alone in that at all, my friend.
For so many of us—especially single millennial women—the temptation to settle is real. We live in a world that constantly reminds us of what we don’t have: the partner, the kids, the built-in social structures that come with those milestones. It’s in our social media feeds, our family gatherings, even the way society markets “happiness” to us. So when we’re craving connection, tenderness, or simply someone to notice us, it’s easy to mistake fleeting attention for genuine interest.
When you get a rando text from an old friend who wants to catch up, it can seem like it is so good to be wanted and thought of. Then, what is actually happening is you holding space for them and the realization that you aren't really IN each other's life, but rather giving a post-bullet point summary of major life moments that neither of you were a part of. It may be nice to sit across with someone to chat, but is it genuine connection and care? That's the question and why we are here today, I suppose.
